Researching Breast Augmentation Procedure

With the growing popularity of the breast augmentation procedure, more medical practitioners in Australia and overseas offering the procedure. We thought we would take a look at what you really need to look for if you are considering any breast augmentation procedure.

Heading online to research a breast augmentation procedure will give you a long list of surgeons and special deals. Instead of wading through promotions and opinions, the best place to start investigating the procedure is with your local GP. Your GP can give you unbiased information about the pros and cons of the procedure, and may be able to suggest a reputable surgeon. Choosing the right surgeon for you is an important step for achieving the results you’ve been dreaming of.

Most medical practitioners offering a breast augmentation procedure will describe themselves as either a plastic surgeon or a cosmetic surgeon. The names sounds similar but they differ when it comes to training and experience. Plastic surgeons have a minimum of seven years additional training after obtaining their medical degree. They will be registered as a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and will have the letters FRACS after their name. For a breast augmentation procedure performed in Australia, you will be paying at anywhere between $6,000 – $12,000. It is important to remember that there are many costs differ from patient to patien. The costs associated with surgery include hospital fees, anaesthesia fees, medication, implant fees, post op garment fees and of course the surgeon’s fee.

You will also need to consider post-operative recovery time. For most patients, they can return to light activities two weeks after surgery. A post-operative garment will need to be worn for six weeks to ensure your breasts heal and settle correctly. If you can’t commit to the recovery time and requirements post-op, a breast augmentation procedure is not suitable for you.
