Labiaplasty – Restoring Confidence in YOU
What is a Labiaplasty?
A Labiaplasty is often referred to as a ‘vaginal rejuvenation’, a procedure where the size and shape of the labia minora or labia majora is altered cosmetically. With age and childbirth the labia and surrounding vaginal tissue, both external and internal, can change in shape, size and tone, which leads to enlargement of the labia. Other women may also have been born with asymmetrical or large labia.
Why do women opt for this procedure?
Labiaplasty surgery can be chosen for a number of reasons regarding functionality or cosmetic concerns. Often women have lived with this problem for many years, with ongoing pain and discomfort and feelings of self-consciousness. Due to the intimate nature of Labiaplasty, women are unaware that this is an exceptionally common problem affecting the health of many females. And of course, that there is an excellent procedure that can provide women with long lasting relief. Labiaplasty procedures also carry a Medicare rebate, with some private health funds covering hospital costs.
The Labiaplasty procedure is often chosen to:
– Relieve regular pain or infections
– Avoid discomfort with tight clothing and exercise
– Relive further discomfort when being intimate
– Correct uneven/asymmetrical labia minora
– Rejuvenate the external genitalia
What is the procedure and recovery time?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in a fully accredited hospital. The operation will last one to two hours, with patients being able to go home the same day. Recovery after Labiaplasty is rapid with most women able to return to normal activities after one week. Swelling and bruising of the genital region can develop over the first few days. Discomfort is treated with ice packs, rest and oral medication.
If you have the procedure at our locations, you will have an appointment to see Dr Turner within the first week after surgery to check that you are healing as expected. Dr Turner will see you several times over the first year to monitor your progress and will give you advice on scar management and resuming normal activities.
