A Painless Alternative to Chemical Peels

When people think of chemical peels, they often think of deep chemical peels. You might imagine yourself having red and irritated skin for weeks. And, while that is true of deep peels, it is definitely not what you’ll see after every chemical peel.

Whether you are looking to refresh your face or tackle serious skin issues like sun damaged skin, deep wrinkles, and scars, there are a range of chemical peels and chemical peel alternative that can give you incredible results. Each option varies in the amount of downtime and its ability to tackle skin issues. Here’s a quick overview.

Types of Chemical Peels

At the Medispa Institute in Dee Why, we offer a range of different types of skin peels for different skin types. Chemical peels are categorised as superficial, medium, and deep. These categories are related to how deeply your skin in is exfoliated.

Superficial peels remove your very top layer of skin. This is a completely painless treatment that you can get over your lunch break. After the procedure, you skin gently peels after four or five days. A single superficial peels has limited benefits but can produce incredible results when done regularly. Your skin will glow afterward and improve with each treatment.

While superficial peels aren’t effective against deeper skin issues, medium peels can tackle freckles, discolouration, sun damage, and fine lines. Since the medium peels work on a deeper level, analgesia is used to keep you comfortable during the procedure. After you have a medium peel, you’ll feel some mild discomfort. It is quite similar to having a mild sunburn. After about one week, your skin will peel and you’ll see a layer layer of younger looking skin.

Deep peels are the option that will give you the most dramatic results. Since it is more intensive, the procedure is under general aesthetic. This process will remove even deep scars and wrinkles. Since it is intensive, it’s essential to do your entire face and you will need to plan for a week or so of healing time. After this period, your skin will peel and you’ll see a new layer of tender skin that will develop into a growing complexion over the course of two to three months.

Chemical Peel Alternatives

While chemical peels are a great option, they aren’t the best choice for every skin type. If you are just looking for a spot treatment or if you have dark skin, other option might suit your needs better.

Microdermabrasion is the best alternative to chemical peels. It gently removes dead skin cells to create a rejuvenated, glowing look. Microdermabrasion can tackle blackheads, pimples, fine lines, scars, hyperpigmentation, and an uneven skin tone.

At the Medispa Institute in Dee Why, we use Diamond Head Microdermabrasion. This uses a gentle circular motion with suction to create maximum results with minimal irritation. You’ll see a significant improvement in your skin after a series of four to six treatments. A typical treatment plan will space the sessions two to four weeks apart, depending on your unique needs.
