Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty NSW

Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty Sydney & Newcastle – Corset Body Lift by Dr Turner

Significant weight loss or pregnancy can leave you with loose saggy skin that negatively affects your body image, physical health, and even emotional wellbeing. Physical exercise or diet really can’t help resolve the issue of loose and droopy skin. The only viable solution is plastic surgery where excess skin is cut and removed along with some stubborn fat deposits. If BOTH your upper and lower abdomen has excess loose skin, then a fleur de lis tummy tuck, corset body lift or FDL abdominoplasty might be the recommended procedure for you.

Dr Scott Turner is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in Newcastle & Sydney NSW and an expert in post weight loss excess skin removal.

NOTE: Dr Turner only performs Fleur de Lis procedures on patients who are 18+ months post-bariatric surgery and have a stable weight for 6+ months. Patients should also not smoke and have a BMI less than 30.

GUIDE Tummy Tuck

What is Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty?

A fleur de lis tummy tuck procedure is a major cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed with the purpose of removing excess loose skin from the entire abdominal region. It is more commonly known as a corset body lift because the procedure often tightens the abdominal skin and can create a contoured figure, similar to that seen with a corset.

The fleur de lis procedure enhances the natural contours of the abdomen while also tightening the skin to give it a more toned and sculpted look.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Fleur De Lis Tummy Tuck?

One of the key requirements for the FDL procedure, since it involves actually the removal of skin flaps, is that the patient is at their optimal weight. Not just that, you should be willing to maintain a stable weight in the future as any weight changes could impact the results of the procedure and cause health complications.

The ideal patient for the fleur de lis abdominoplasty surgery is someone who:

  • Is suffering due to excessive loose skin in the entire abdominal region (upper and lower)
  • Is a non-smoker or willing to quit for at least six weeks before and after the surgery
  • Is physically and mentally healthy
  • Is aware of what the procedure includes and the potential complications that can arise either during the procedure or after.
  • Is willing to commit to maintaining their weight with no significant changes to ensure the results last

Benefits of the Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty

The Fleur De Lis tummy tuck has several benefits that range from physical and aesthetics-based to emotional and mental benefits. It is important to note that the benefits of the procedure are only available when the ideal candidate undergoes the surgery and after the surgery, the candidate follows all of the surgeon’s indications for the recovery period as well. Failing to do either could potentially alter the results of the procedure and void any benefits present. `

1. Less Skin Infections

The main benefit of the fleur de lis procedure is that it helps you get rid of recurrent skin infections and irritation that might be present when you have skin folds. Loose skin folds over itself and then, these folds accumulate sweat and germs throughout the day. Prolonged periods of these accumulations result in skin infections, chafing, skin irritation, and rashes that can be painful and hard to manage. Treating them is difficult as well because the folds will continue to act as collecting pools for sweat. While hygiene can help minimise the problem, it won’t fix the issue.

2. Less Skin Folds

Undergoing the fleur de lis procedure is highly beneficial as it excises extra saggy skin that is the cause of the skin folds and hence, prevents skin irritation and infections from occurring in the future.

3. Improved Self Esteem & Self Image

The fleur de lis procedure can boost your self-esteem levels as it contours the body. It helps your feel comfortable in your skin and enjoy your new figure after your weight loss journey. All of these can improve your self-image and self-worth, consequently making you feel better about yourself. Similarly, the results of the procedure improve the way your body looks, hence improving the aesthetics of your body. No more saggy skin getting in the way!

Your Fleur De Lis Journey

Your Fleur de lis tummy tuck procedure journey begins with a consultation with Dr Turner and ends with the recovery period. However, the results of the procedure may keep improving over the course of three to six months after the recovery period has ended.

A Consultation for a Fleur de Lis Abdominoplasty

If you have any questions about the procedure or its risks, this is time to ask those questions and clear your mind. You will also undergo a physical examination and a few blood tests to assess your eligibility during this time.

Fleur de Lis Tummy Tuck Surgery

The surgery is performed under anaesthesia and takes anywhere between three to six hours, depending on the extent of loose skin present. Dr Turner will hide the incisions in the natural folds of the body as much as possible so that they are barely visible later on. The incisions are made between the hip bones and between the hip bone and the rib. Then, the extra skin will be excised and stubborn fat deposits will be removed. At this point, if you have already discussed this, additional body liposuction may also be performed.

After the required amount of fat and skin has been removed, Dr Turner will suture the incisions and that marks the end of the procedure.

Recovery after Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty

Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty Sydney - Dr Turner FDL surgery Expert

Recovery from the fleur de lis procedure takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks. You should be prepared to spend most of this time resting and relaxing, only expecting to go back to work by the end of week 2 or 3. Throughout the recovery period and till Dr Turner recommends you to stop, you should wear a compression garment. This helps you avoid fluid collection and hold the abdomen tight and in place to guarantee excellent results.

You should refrain from alcohol and smoking during this period, and also you should avoid putting any pressure on the incisions. The pressure can result in wound separation and ruin the results of the procedure by leaving a thick and visible scar.

Risks and Complications of the Fleur De Lis Procedure

Fleur de Lis tummy tuck is a major and complex cosmetic surgery procedure that has been found to be relatively safe to undergo. The risk of developing a complication after the fleur de lis procedure and the traditional tummy tuck procedure is quite similar, which is minimal. Moreover, most of the complications of the procedure do not require medical help as they resolve on their own.

Some of the rare complications of the fleur de lis procedure are:

  • Bleeding or Hematoma
  • Infection at the site of the incision
  • Fluid accumulation or seroma
  • Wound dehiscence
  • Asymmetry
  • Persistent numbness
  • Excessive swelling and bruising
  • Pain that doesn’t resolve with OTC painkillers

In case of the following symptoms, it is important to seek urgent medical help:

  • High fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pus oozing out of the incision
  • Sudden calf pain in one leg
