Thigh Lift Sydney

Thigh Lift Surgery Sydney & Newcastle by Dr Turner

Massive weight loss can result in saggy skin all over your body. Excess skin is not only an aesthetic concern, but also a physical one. It can stop you from enjoying your new body and being yourself. However, there is no non-surgical treatment to reduce excess saggy thigh skin and the only way you can get rid of it is an Upper thigh lift procedure.

Dr Scott Turner is a Post weight loss surgery expert and Specialist Plastic Surgeon in Newcastle & Sydney NSW.

What is a Thigh Lift Procedure?

A thigh lift procedure is a cosmetic surgery that is performed with the purpose of removing excess saggy skin from the thigh region as a result of massive weight loss. The procedure focuses on removing droopy skin and fat tissue while enhancing the natural contours of the thigh. The procedure leaves behind a firm and smoother thigh, with natural curves and easily hidden scars in the natural folds of the body.

The thigh lift procedure is often combined with a liposuction procedure to ensure superior results as there may be stubborn fat deposits that may be hard to reach through a surgical incision alone. The thigh lift and liposuction are complementary procedures that can deliver impressive results when performed together.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Thigh Lift Procedure?

The ideal candidate for a thigh lift procedure meets the eligibility criteria as assessed by Dr Turner. These criteria are set to ensure that you are healthy prior to the procedure and there is a very low chance of you suffering from severe complications after the thigh procedure.

The best candidate for a thigh lift procedure:

  • Are physically and mentally healthy
  • Are suffering from excess saggy skin in the thigh region
  • Are at their optimal weight, with a healthy plan to maintain that weight
  • Are not planning on losing or gaining more weight in the future
  • Are non-smokers or willing to quit smoking at least six weeks before and after the procedure
  • Are undergoing the procedure for themselves and not for anyone else or to fit into any trends
  • Are aware of the potential risks and complications of the procedure so that an informed decision can be made

It is important to meet the eligibility criteria for your safety and to get the best possible results after your surgery.

Benefits of the Thigh Lift Procedure

The thigh lift procedure is a cosmetic procedure that has several benefits for your physical health, mental health, and overall body aesthetic. When you have saggy skin, there is a high likelihood of skin folds that can increase your risk of skin irritation and rashes as a result of the skin rubbing. It also increases the likelihood of skin infection as the skin folds are the perfect place for bacterial growth. Undergoing a thigh lift procedure can help resolve these skin issues.

Thighs with excess skin can make shopping for clothes quite difficult as it often feels like clothes don’t fit properly. This can take a toll on your emotional wellbeing and self-esteem. Undergoing the thigh lift procedure can remove the excess skin and leave you with firm and contoured thighs that will give you the confidence boost you deserve.

You will be able to enjoy showing off your legs in any outfit, and the scars can be hidden in the natural folds of the leg. Scars will fade over time. This is not only good for your self-worth and image but can also have an effect on social and interpersonal relationships.

The Thigh Lift Journey

Your thigh lift journey begins with the consultation phase and ends with the completion of the recovery period.

Consultation for the Thigh Lift

The consultation for the thigh lift procedure is the best time for you to have an in-depth discussion with Dr Turner about your current health, medications that you may be taking including all herbal and over-the-counter medications, and about the results you desire. Being open about your health and the results that you want is highly important so that you and Dr Turner are on the same page about the procedure.

Thigh Lift Surgery

Most of the time, general anaesthesia is used for thigh lift surgery. The surgery begins with Dr Turner making the initial incisions that are located in the inner thigh although the size and exact location of the incisions depend on the extent of skin that needs to be removed. Then, Dr Turner will remove excess skin and fat tissue, sometimes using liposuction. Once the desired results are reached, Dr Turner will suture the incisions and place draining tubes near the incision to ensure proper fluid removal. This marks the end of your thigh lift surgery.

Recovery after the Thigh Lift Procedure

The recovery after the thigh lift procedure can take anywhere between four weeks to six weeks, although you will be able to get back to work by week 2 or week 3. The first week of the recovery period is bound to be a bit uncomfortable with mild swelling, bruising, and pain. The discomfort can be managed with OTC painkillers or specific medication prescribed by Dr Turner.

You should begin walking around as soon as possible to avoid potential complications. However, it is not recommended to overdo it as that will complicate the wound healing process. You should wear compression garments around your thigh the entire recovery period and take proper care of the drains to avoid any infections at the site of the incision.

You should refrain from smoking and drinking during this period as that increases the risk of infection which will slow down the healing process and can alter the results of the procedure. It is also important to avoid any strenuous exercises till the end of the recovery period as any pressure on the incisions can result in visible scarring or at worst, complicate the entire healing process.

Potential Risks and Complications of the Thigh Lift Procedure

The thigh lift procedure is a surgical procedure that is associated with certain risks and complications. These risks and complications can be reduced by choosing a surgeon that is an expert in this field and highly trained as this ensures that the best techniques are used for the procedure.

The risks and complications of the thigh lift procedure can be managed and often resolve on their own, without even requiring any medical treatment. The common side effects of the procedure are:

  • Allergic reactions to the anaesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Seroma or fluid accumulation
  • Persistent pain and bruising
  • Persistent numbness
  • Infection with oozing at the incision site
  • Asymmetry
  • Damage to surrounding structures during the procedure
  • Fat necrosis
