# Upper Eyelid (BLEPHAROPLASTY) Surgery

Upper blepharoplasty, also called upper eyelid surgery, removes excess upper eyelid skin and, where appropriate, small amounts of fat or muscle. The procedure addresses dermatochalasis (true eyelid skin excess), but not all upper-lid heaviness comes from the eyelid itself. At consultation, Dr Scott J Turner assesses whether the heaviness is caused by dermatochalasis, brow ptosis (descent of the eyebrow), eyelid ptosis (a separate condition affecting the levator muscle that elevates the lid), or a combination of these. The right operation depends on which structure is driving the concern, and the assessment determines whether upper blepharoplasty, [brow lift](https://drturner.com.au/procedures/eyes/brow-lift/), ptosis correction, or combined surgery is appropriate.

Dr Scott J Turner is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), registered with AHPRA (MED0001654827). He consults at his Sydney clinics in Bondi Junction and Manly, with surgery performed at Bondi Junction Private Hospital and Delmar Private Hospital, Dee Why. The page sits within the broader [eyelid and brow surgery in Sydney](https://drturner.com.au/procedures/eyes/) information hub.
