When can I start exercising again after having a nose job?

You will need to wait two weeks or more after surgery before you can resume moderate exercise, to avoid increasing nasal swelling. Resume with gentle exercise only at first, to assist full rhinoplasty recovery as soon as possible as your swelling decreases over time.

How long will bruising and swelling last after rhinoplasty?

The appearance of bruising during nose job recovery depends on the method of surgery used, for example whether the nasal bones were fractured. The average period will be up to 10 days of facial bruising after rhinoplasty.

Major swelling subsides over three weeks, but minor swelling may last 12 months. Sometimes at 6 weeks we can inject a small amount of steroids to help resolve the swelling more quickly.

Can I have a nose job at any age?

Dr Turner does not recommend rhinoplasty for patients under the age of 16. It is important that your natural facial features have fully developed prior to undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure.

Surgery to refine the appearance of the nose is best done after a young person has finished growing. This usually means around the age of 17. At the other end of the spectrum, nasal surgery can be done at any age as long as you are in good health.

What scars will I have after a nose job?

Usually incisions for nose surgery are made inside the nose and are not visible. Incisions to the outer nose usually fade to become virtually invisible.

How will I look and feel initially?

The first few days after surgery are generally the most painful, particularly when you are moving around or coughing. You will be prescribed pain medication during this period. It is also normal to feel tired and a little slow for a day or two after an anaesthetic. You will have a splint on your nose to maintain its shape during the healing process. Swelling and bruising around the eyes will be noticeable within the first 24 hours after surgery. Ice packs over the eyes will help reduce the swelling. Care should be taken not to wet the splint.
