# Lip Lift Surgery

Lip lift surgery, also called an upper lip lift or subnasal lip lift, shortens the skin between the base of the nose and the upper lip. In the most common approach, the bullhorn lip lift, a measured strip of skin is removed from just beneath the nose and the incision is closed along the nasal base. In suitable patients this can bring a little more of the upper lip vermilion into view and show slightly more upper tooth at rest. The planning is measured in millimetres, and conservative skin removal matters because the skin that is removed cannot be replaced.

Dr Scott J Turner is a [Specialist Plastic Surgeon (FRACS)](https://drturner.com.au/resources/dr-scott-turner-sydney-plastic-surgeon/) who consults on lip lift surgery in Sydney at Manly and Bondi Junction, as well as in Brisbane and Canberra, with surgery carried out in accredited private hospitals in Sydney. This page walks through the bullhorn technique, upper lip anatomy and philtrum shortening, scar placement, conservative planning, who may and may not be suitable, and what to expect from recovery, risks and cost.
