Procedures Available in Sydney
Dr Turner offers a comprehensive range of plastic surgery procedures from his Sydney clinics. Consultations for all procedures listed below are available at both the Manly and Bondi Junction locations.
Facelift Surgery
Dr Turner offers a range of facelift techniques tailored to individual facial anatomy and the extent of change a patient is seeking. These include:
- Deep Plane Facelift, which works at a deeper structural level than standard techniques, repositioning the SMAS and facial fat compartments. Results may be longer-lasting than more superficial techniques in suitable candidates, though outcomes vary between individuals.
- Vertical Restore Facelift, designed to lift tissues in a more vertical direction, addressing volume loss and facial descent with a focus on the midface.
- SMAS Facelift, a well-established technique that addresses laxity in the superficial muscular aponeurotic system, typically suited to patients with moderate facial ageing.
- Short Scar or Mini Facelift, a more limited procedure with a smaller incision footprint, suited to younger patients with earlier-stage laxity.
- Ponytail Facelift, a less invasive technique using smaller incisions, often suited to patients who are not yet candidates for a full facelift.
No single technique is right for every patient. The appropriate approach depends on your anatomy, degree of change, skin quality, and individual goals, and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
Neck Lift Surgery
Neck and jawline concerns are among the most common reasons patients seek a surgical consultation. Dr Turner offers three distinct approaches:
- Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty), the primary procedure for neck surgery, involving platysma muscle repair and skin repositioning to address banding and laxity in the neck.
- Deep Neck Lift, a more extensive approach addressing subplatysmal fat and deeper structures, typically combined with a facelift for patients with more significant neck changes.
- Neck Liposuction, suitable for patients with excess submental fat but adequate skin elasticity. This is not a standalone solution for skin laxity.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Blepharoplasty may involve the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Upper eyelid surgery typically addresses excess skin that may be obscuring the upper lid or affecting the field of vision. Lower eyelid surgery addresses hollowing, puffiness, or skin laxity in the under-eye area. Dr Turner will assess whether a single procedure or combined approach is likely to address your concerns.
Brow Lift
A brow lift aims to reposition a descended brow line and address forehead concerns. Techniques include the endoscopic brow lift, suited to patients with earlier-stage brow descent, and the coronal approach, suited to more significant cases. Brow lift surgery is frequently combined with blepharoplasty or facelift procedures, where the concerns overlap.
Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Rhinoplasty is one of the most technically demanding procedures in plastic surgery. Dr Turner performs both primary rhinoplasty (first-time nose surgery) and revision rhinoplasty (re-operation following a previous procedure). Rhinoplasty may address the dorsal profile, tip definition, nasal width, nostril shape, or symmetry concerns, depending on each patient’s anatomy and goals. Functional concerns, including breathing difficulties related to a deviated septum, may be addressed at the same time as aesthetic changes through functional rhinoplasty.
Breast Surgery
Breast procedures available at Dr Turner’s Sydney clinics include:
- Breast Augmentation, which involves placement of TGA-approved breast implants to address volume or proportion concerns. Implant type and profile are selected based on anatomy and discussion at consultation.
- Breast Lift (Mastopexy), which involves repositioning of breast tissue and the nipple-areolar complex to address ptosis (drooping). This may be performed with or without implants.
- Breast Reduction, which involves removal of excess breast tissue and skin to address volume, weight-related discomfort, and proportion. Medicare and private health insurance rebates may apply in qualifying cases.
- Breast Implant Revision, for patients seeking removal of existing implants, exchange to different implants, or management of implant-related concerns.
Body Surgery
Body contouring procedures available for consultation in Sydney include abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), post-pregnancy surgery, and labiaplasty. Additional body contouring procedures, including arm lift and thigh lift, are available by consultation. Dr Turner will assess your individual concerns and discuss which approach, or combination of approaches, may be appropriate for your circumstances.
About Dr Scott J Turner
Dr Scott J Turner completed his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2013, following a Master of Surgery in Plastic Surgery at the University of Sydney. His FRACS training involved rotations across multiple leading Australian plastic surgery units, with exposure to a broad range of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures before transitioning exclusively to private cosmetic surgery practice.
He is an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), and maintains ongoing involvement in professional development through national and international surgical conferences and workshops. His surgical focus in private practice is on facial surgery, particularly facelift techniques, alongside rhinoplasty and breast surgery.
Dr Turner’s approach in consultation is direct and practical. He will explain what surgery can realistically address, what it cannot, and what the risks and recovery involve, so you can make a decision that is genuinely informed.

Surgical Facilities
All surgery is performed at accredited private hospitals with experienced specialist anaesthetists and perioperative nursing teams. Dr Turner does not operate in office-based facilities. Current Sydney surgical facilities include:
- Delmar Private Hospital, 58 Quirk Street, Dee Why NSW 2099, serving Manly clinic patients
- Bondi Junction Private Hospital, Level 1, 21 Spring Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022, serving Eastern Suburbs patients
The choice of hospital is confirmed during your consultation and depends on the procedure, your medical history, and logistical factors. Both hospitals maintain accreditation with the relevant Australian regulatory bodies.
Who May Be Suitable for Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery is not appropriate for everyone, and a thorough assessment is always required before any decision is made. Generally speaking, patients who tend to be well-suited are those who:
- Are in good general health. Underlying medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and clotting disorders, require careful assessment and may affect eligibility or timing.
- Have realistic expectations. Surgery may address specific structural concerns, but outcomes vary between individuals based on anatomy, healing, skin quality, age, and other factors.
- Are at a stable weight. Body contouring procedures in particular are better suited to patients who have reached and maintained a stable weight, rather than those actively losing or gaining.
- Are non-smokers or willing to stop. Smoking significantly increases surgical risk and impairs wound healing. Dr Turner requires patients to cease smoking well in advance of any procedure.
A consultation is the only way to assess whether surgery is appropriate for your specific circumstances. Dr Turner will not recommend surgery unless it is, in his clinical assessment, a reasonable option for you.
Your Patient Pathway in Sydney
Step 1, Initial Consultation. Your first consultation with Dr Turner covers your concerns, your medical history, a physical assessment, and an explanation of any procedures that may be relevant. You will leave with a clear understanding of what options exist, what is realistic, and what questions to keep thinking about.
Step 2, Second Consultation. AHPRA guidelines require a minimum of two consultations before any cosmetic surgery can proceed, with a mandatory cooling-off period. The second consultation is an opportunity to revisit any questions, review your surgical plan in detail, and confirm your decision. A psychological evaluation is also required for all patients proceeding to cosmetic surgery (effective 1 July 2023).
Step 3, Pre-Operative Preparation. Once you have decided to proceed, you will receive detailed pre-operative instructions covering medication management, fasting requirements, what to arrange at home, and what to expect on the day. Some procedures require pre-operative blood tests or medical clearance.
Step 4, Surgery and Recovery. Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia or sedation, depending on the procedure. Recovery timelines vary significantly between procedures, and you will receive specific information during your consultation. Most patients require at least one post-operative review in Sydney before being cleared to return to normal activities.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Specialist Plastic Surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon?
In Australia, the title “Specialist Plastic Surgeon” is a protected term and can only be used by surgeons who have completed the full FRACS training program in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery — a process that typically takes ten or more years, including medical degree, internship, residency, and specialist training. “Cosmetic surgeon” is not a protected title in Australia, meaning it can be used by doctors from a range of backgrounds, including those with no formal surgical fellowship training. When researching plastic surgery in Sydney, it’s worth understanding the difference and asking any surgeon you consult what their specific training pathway was.
Does Dr Turner consult at both Manly and Bondi Junction?
Yes. Dr Turner consults at both Sydney clinics — Manly on the Northern Beaches, and Bondi Junction in the Eastern Suburbs. The two clinics operate independently and at the same standard. When you contact the practice to book, you can request whichever location is more convenient, and in some cases you may split consultations across both clinics depending on scheduling. Surgery itself is performed at the hospital associated with each clinic location.
How many consultations are required before surgery?
A minimum of two in-person consultations is required before any cosmetic surgery can proceed. This is a regulatory requirement under AHPRA’s cosmetic surgery guidelines. A mandatory cooling-off period applies between the final consultation and surgery. Additionally, from 1 July 2023, all patients proceeding to cosmetic surgery must complete a psychological evaluation as part of the pre-operative process. Dr Turner observes these requirements as a matter of standard practice, not just compliance.
What should I expect at my first consultation?
Your first consultation typically runs between 30 and 60 minutes. You’ll have the opportunity to describe your concerns in your own words, after which Dr Turner will conduct a clinical assessment and explain what surgical options may be relevant to your situation. He’ll also explain what each procedure involves, what recovery typically looks like, what the risks are, and what a realistic outcome range might be. You won’t be asked to make a decision on the day — the first consultation is about information, not commitment.
What are the risks of plastic surgery?
All surgical procedures carry risk, and plastic surgery is no exception. General surgical risks include infection, bleeding, adverse reaction to anaesthesia, poor wound healing, and scarring. Procedure-specific risks vary and will be discussed in detail during your consultation. Outcomes are not guaranteed and depend on a range of individual factors including anatomy, skin quality, age, healing capacity, and lifestyle. Dr Turner discusses risks plainly and thoroughly during every consultation — if something concerns you, ask.
How long is recovery after facelift or neck lift surgery?
Recovery varies depending on the specific procedure and the individual. Following a facelift or neck lift, most patients plan for approximately two weeks before returning to desk-based work, though significant swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks beyond this. More strenuous activities — exercise, heavy lifting, and similar — are typically restricted for four to six weeks. Final outcomes continue to develop over several months as swelling fully resolves and tissues settle. Dr Turner will give you specific guidance based on the procedure planned.
Are consultations available via telehealth?
An initial telehealth consultation may be possible in some circumstances — for example, if you’re located interstate or internationally and are assessing whether a trip to Sydney is worthwhile. However, telehealth cannot replace the mandatory in-person consultations required before surgery. A physical examination is a clinical necessity, and AHPRA guidelines require that at least one in-person consultation take place prior to cosmetic surgery. If you’d like to explore a telehealth option as a first step, contact the practice to discuss whether this is appropriate for your situation.

A GP referral is required prior to your first consultation, in line with AHPRA guidelines.
All cosmetic surgery patients in Australia are required to obtain a GP referral prior to consultation, attend a minimum of two consultations with their surgeon, undergo a psychological evaluation, and observe a mandatory cooling-off period before proceeding to surgery. These requirements are set by AHPRA and the Medical Board of Australia and came into effect on 1 July 2023. All surgery carries risks.
