Circumferential Tummy Tuck in Sydney and Newcastle – 360 Abdominoplasty by Dr Turner
Massive weight loss can help you improve your health, but more often than not, weight loss is accompanied by rolls of loose and droopy skin that can impact your new life. To enhance the look of your body after a massive weight loss, you need to get rid of this excess skin. However, exercise and non-surgical methods can’t reduce this loose skin, so a cosmetic surgery procedure may help. If the extra skin folds are around your entire trunk, then you might benefit from a circumferential abdominoplasty. Medicare and your Private Health Insurer may offer a partial subsidy for this procedure to be done by a private practice.
NOTE: Dr Turner only performs circumferential tummy tuck procedures on patients who are 18+ months post-bariatric surgery and have a stable weight for 6+ months. The patients should also not smoke and have a BMI smaller than 30.

What is a Circumferential Abdominoplasty Procedure?
A circumferential abdominoplasty procedure is a complex cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed with the purpose of recontouring your entire trunk and enhancing the natural shape of the body. The procedure is more commonly known as belt lipectomy and 360 abdominoplasty procedure.
The belt lipectomy procedure revolves around removing excess skin from the lower abdominal region, the flanks, and the back, all the while lifting the buttocks to make them appear a bit higher and perkier. This procedure is the combination of a lower back lift to get rid of the back rolls and an extended tummy tuck for the excess skin around the frontal lower abdomen and flanks.
Ideal Candidates for Circumferential Abdominoplasty Procedure
The ideal candidates for circumferential abdominoplasty are those that have undergone a massive weight loss that has left them with loose skin that is a cause of concern. Once you undergo this procedure, weight fluctuations can impact the results of the procedure which is why you should be at your optimal weight prior to surgery and maintain a healthy lifestyle after surgery.
Some of the other aspects of the eligibility criteria that you need to meet to undergo the procedure are:
- You should be a non-smoker. Read the Impact of Smoking.
- You should be physically and mentally healthy
- You should have realistic expectations from the procedure
- You should be undergoing the procedure for yourself (not because someone else wants you to)
Benefits of the Circumferential Abdominoplasty Procedure
- The belt lipectomy procedure can help get rid of the excess skin that may cause skin irritation and infections that can be quite painful to deal with
- The procedure helps improve your mental health by giving you the confidence boost you deserve
- Circumferential abdominoplasty enhances the natural contours of your trunk and gives it a tightened and toned appearance. The procedure significantly improves the aesthetics of your trunk

Your Circumferential Abdominoplasty Journey
Starting with a Consultation for a Circumferential Abdominoplasty
A consultation marks the beginning of your circumferential abdominoplasty journey and it is the time when you decide if you want to undergo the procedure. It is important that you spend this time being candid with Dr Turner about what you are expecting from the procedure and help him achieve those results for you. You will need to undergo a physical examination and a blood test so that your health condition can be assessed. Please contact the practice to make an appointment.
Circumferential Tummy Tuck Surgery
The circumferential abdominoplasty procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately four to five hours in theatre. The procedure could be combined with other surgeries to enhance the overall appearance of your body but staying under anaesthesia for long periods of time is not preferred as it can increase the risk of complications.
The procedure begins with you on your back, where Dr Turner will make the first incision between the hip bones, close to the pubic bone. Another incision will be made around the belly button which is repositioned and remains attached to the abdominal wall muscles. The flap of skin in between is then removed and the stubborn fat deposits are removed. If required, the underlying abdominal muscles will be tightened and repaired. This completes the excess skin removal from your lower abdominal region.
Then, you will be turned to your sides to remove excess skin from the flanks. The incision for this will also be placed quite low so that it is easier for you to hide the scar in the lining of your underwear or bikini bottoms. The skin on both sides will be tightened and symmetry will be maintained. Dr Turner will work with the other side and your abdomen in mind when excising excess skin to make sure that the results are symmetrical.
After the circumferential tummy tuck procedure is completed, the back lift procedure will begin and you will be turned on your stomach. Dr Turner will not only remove the excess skin from the lower back but while doing so, will tighten the skin such that it gives the buttocks a slight lift.
At the end of the procedure, Dr Turner will suture the incisions on your lower back as the other incisions are sutured as the procedure progresses. This marks the end of your procedure and the next phase of your belt lipectomy journey begins now.
Recovery from the Circumferential Abdominoplasty Procedure
The recovery from the belt lipectomy procedure takes around 6 to 8 weeks which should be spent mostly resting and relaxing. It is important for you to avoid putting any pressure on the incisions during the whole recovery period as that could impair the wound healing process. You should also wear a compression garment during recovery to help enhance and maintain your results. You should also refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol as that increases the risk of infections and other complications.
Risks and Complications of the Circumferential Abdominoplasty Procedure
